Types of Loft Insulation
- Glass Wool Rolls — Lightweight, flexible rolls for laying between and over joists in cold loft spaces. Easy to cut and install, available in standard widths to fit between 400mm and 600mm joist centres.
- Mineral Wool Batts — Semi-rigid slabs for rafter insulation in warm roof and room-in-roof applications. Higher density than rolls, suitable for vertical and sloped installations.
How Much Loft Insulation Do I Need?
Current UK building regulations recommend a minimum of 270mm of loft insulation for cold loft spaces. This is typically achieved with a 100mm layer between the joists and a 170mm layer laid at right angles across the top.
