20mm Wall Thickness Pipe Insulation
20mm Wall Thickness Pipe Insulation — UK Specialist Supplier
Shop our range of pipe insulation with 20mm wall thickness, available in Kingspan Kooltherm phenolic foam, Kingspan K-Roc mineral fibre and Rockwool Rocklap stone wool. 20mm wall insulation is the entry-level commercial specification for heating pipework, offering significantly better thermal performance than domestic foam insulation and meeting BS 5422 requirements for small to medium bore pipework in commercial buildings.
Available Products
- Kingspan Kooltherm 20mm Wall — Premium phenolic foam pipe insulation with λ = 0.025 W/mK. The thinnest wall that meets BS 5422 for small-bore commercial heating pipework. Class O fire rated, foil faced, available in 15mm to 114mm bore
- Kingspan K-Roc 20mm Wall — Mineral fibre pipe insulation with λ = 0.033 W/mK and A2 fire classification (non-combustible). Reinforced aluminium foil facing with self-adhesive closing lap. Available from 20mm wall upward in 5mm increments
- Rockwool Rocklap 20mm Wall — Foil-faced stone wool pipe sections. A1 non-combustible (Euroclass A1), suitable for continuous operating temperatures up to 750°C. Widely specified for commercial heating and fire-rated applications
Why Choose 20mm Wall Thickness?
- BS 5422 compliance — 20mm Kooltherm meets the minimum insulation requirement for small-bore commercial heating pipework (up to approximately 21mm OD) under BS 5422
- Space saving — phenolic insulation at 20mm wall achieves the same or better thermal performance as 25mm elastomeric foam, saving space in congested plant rooms and risers
- Fire performance — mineral wool options achieve A1 or A2 non-combustible classification, essential for fire-rated specifications
- Commercial grade — suitable for LTHW and MTHW heating systems, hot water distribution and commercial plant room pipework
Common Applications
- Commercial heating mains and primary circuits (LTHW and MTHW)
- Hot water distribution pipework in commercial buildings
- Plant room and riser pipework where space is constrained
- District heating connections requiring phenolic or mineral wool specification
- Fire-rated pipework where non-combustible insulation is specified
20mm vs 25mm — Which Should I Choose?
For most commercial heating applications on small-bore pipework (up to 21mm OD), 20mm Kooltherm will meet BS 5422 requirements. For larger bore pipework or higher temperature applications, 25mm or 30mm wall is typically required. See our wall thickness guide for full details.
