How to measure?
Measure the Outside Diameter (OD)
Pipe insulation sizes refer to the outside diameter of the pipe — not the bore (internal diameter).
Wrap a tape measure around the pipe, divide by π (3.14) to get the OD. Or use calipers across the outside of the pipe directly.

Kingspan Kooltherm Phenolic Pipe Insulation – 1m Long
Kingspan Kooltherm Pipe Insulation is a rigid, fibre-free phenolic insulation system for building-services and industrial pipework. It combines low thermal conductivity with a compact insulation thickness, making it well suited to space-constrained plant rooms, risers and service zones.
Supplied in pre-formed 1 metre pipe sections with an outer foil facing. Select the required pipe outside diameter and insulation thickness from the available variants.
Key Features
- Low thermal conductivity: as low as 0.025 W/(m·K) at +10°C, depending on product configuration
- Operating temperature: -50°C to +110°C for Kooltherm pipe sections
- Closed-cell content: greater than 90%
- Reaction to fire: HVAC-foil-faced pipe sections up to 300mm diameter achieve Euroclass BL-s1,d0 in the tested configuration
- Space efficient: high thermal performance can allow thinner insulation thicknesses than many conventional alternatives for the same design duty
- Factory-applied facing: reinforced foil outer face provides a neat finish and vapour-control layer when joints are correctly sealed

Technical Notes
For services operating below 0°C, Kingspan recommends use of a factory-applied low-permeability vapour-barrier jacket suitable for the application. Insulation thickness should be selected to meet the project design, operating temperature and applicable specification requirements.
Where compliance with BS 5422:2023, Building Regulations or a project-specific heat-loss requirement is needed, use the required calculated thickness rather than selecting insulation thickness by pipe diameter alone.
Installation
Fit the pre-formed sections closely around the pipe and seal longitudinal and circumferential joints in accordance with Kingspan installation guidance. Maintain continuity of the foil facing and vapour-control layer, particularly on chilled-water and below-ambient systems.
Complete Your Installation
Use a suitable aluminium foil tape compatible with the facing to seal joints and maintain a continuous finish. For specification support or wall-thickness selection, refer to current Kingspan Technical Insulation guidance or contact our team.
