Plysolene PIB Sheeting PIB0.525X1 (0.525m x 1m)

Compact, High-Performance Waterproofing for Smaller Pipes & Fittings

Plysolene PIB0.525X1 is a premium UK-manufactured Polyisobutylene (PIB) thermoplastic sheeting engineered for long-term weatherproofing and corrosion protection of smaller-diameter insulated pipework, instrument lines, valves, and narrow ducting. This 0.525m x 1m sheet delivers the same proven Plysolene quality trusted for over 50 years — now in a compact size ideal for precision and confined-space applications.

Key Features

  • Exceptional Durability: Fully resistant to UV, ozone, and weathering — no cracking, chalking, or embrittlement even after decades of exposure.
  • Broad Temperature Performance: Remains flexible and effective from -30°C to +100°C — suitable for chilled water, steam, and process lines.
  • Superior Chemical Resistance: Impervious to oils, acids, alkalis, salts, and industrial chemicals.
  • Solvent Weldable: Forms permanent, monolithic seals via solvent welding — zero leaks, zero maintenance.
  • Precision Size: 0.525m width x 1m length — perfect for small-bore pipes, tracer lines, and tight-access areas.
  • Thickness Options: 0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm — select based on insulation depth and mechanical protection required.
  • Colour & Finish: Black (external), White (internal); chalked or interleaved liner to prevent sticking during storage and installation.

Typical Applications

PIB0.525X1 is the professional choice for smaller-scale and high-precision installations:

  • Weatherproof jacketing on insulated instrument tubing and control lines
  • Protective cladding for refrigeration, HVAC, and narrow ventilation ducts
  • Waterproof sealing around valves, flanges, and pipe penetrations
  • Corrosion and moisture barrier in marine, offshore, and coastal plants
  • Long-term protection of underground tracer lines and capillary tubes

Why Choose Plysolene PIB0.525X1?

Backed by Plysolene’s 50+ years of expertise in PIB technology, this sheeting offers unmatched longevity and reliability. Its non-absorbent, non-ageing structure eliminates water ingress and CUI (corrosion under insulation). Solvent-welded joints create a fully sealed, vapour-tight barrier — reducing energy loss and maintenance costs for life.

Plysolene PIB0.525X1 Installation Guide

Step-by-Step Instructions for Professional Results

Follow this guide to install PIB0.525X1 sheeting on small-bore pipes, instrument lines, and fittings. Use only Plysolene Solvent. Work in a ventilated area with PPE.

1. Preparation

  1. Clean Surface: Insulation must be dry, smooth, and free from dust/oil. Wipe with dry cloth.
  2. Measure: Circumference = π × (pipe OD + 2 × insulation) + 75mm overlap. Add 10% for fittings.
  3. Cut Sheets: Use sharp knife on flat surface. Score and fold for curves.
  4. Conditions: Install >5°C. Warm materials to 15°C in cold weather.

2. Installation

  1. Wrap: Start at 6 o’clock, wrap clockwise. Keep tension even.
  2. Solvent: Brush thin coat on both overlaps. Open time: 1–2 mins.
  3. Weld: Press firmly, roll with silicone roller. Overlap: 50mm min.
  4. Stagger Joints: ≥150mm from previous. Seal all edges.
  5. Fittings: Miter-cut gores for elbows. Use patches for valves.
  6. End Caps: Cut and weld circular caps with 360° seal.

3. Finishing

  1. Clean: Wipe excess solvent immediately.
  2. Cure: 24h initial, 72h full. Do not disturb.
  3. Inspect: No gaps, strong welds (test pull).

Detailed Solvent Welding Techniques for PIB0.525X1

Achieve 100% Monolithic Joints Every Time

Solvent Welding Process

  1. Prep: Clean both surfaces. Warm to 15°C if cold.
  2. Align: Mark overlap. Peel back the top sheet 150mm.
  3. Apply: Thin even coat of Plysolene Solvent to both surfaces (~220 g/m²).
  4. Bond: Press within 60 sec. Roll firmly outward from the centre.
  5. Finish: Re-roll after 2 mins. Clamp flat joints 10 mins.

Joint Types

Joint Technique Overlap
Longitudinal Weld at 12 o’clock 50–75mm
Circumferential Stagger ≥150mm 75mm
Elbow Miter 4–6 gores 50mm
Valve Box Fabricate + flange 100mm

Temperature Adjustments

  • Cold (<10°C): Warm materials, open time → 3 mins
  • Hot (>25°C): Work in shade, open time → 45 secs

Troubleshooting

  • Weak Weld: Clean + re-weld with new overlap
  • Bubbles: Roll immediately, avoid over-solvent
  • Delamination: Contamination — use IPA, dry fully

Safety

  • Use Plysolene Solvent only. No smoking. Ventilate.
  • Avoid bitumen, polystyrene, PVC contact.
