Kingspan Kooltherm Pipe Insulation — Size & Application Guide
Kingspan Kooltherm is the UK's highest-performing pipe insulation, with a thermal conductivity of λ = 0.025 W/mK — the lowest of any standard pipe insulation material. It is a rigid, phenolic-foam, foil-faced, Class O fire-rated, and specified wherever BS 5422 compliance is required, with a minimum wall thickness.
Why Kooltherm Outperforms Standard Foam
- λ = 0.025 W/mK vs λ = 0.033 W/mK for Armaflex — 40% better thermal performance per mm of wall
- Achieves BS 5422 compliance at a thinner wall than any other standard pipe insulation material
- Saves space in congested plant rooms and service risers
- Class O fire rating (BS 476), B-s1,d0 (EN 13501-1)
- Operating temperature: -180°C to +110°C

- 50mm wall — maximum thermal performance
BS 5422 Compliance with Kooltherm
Because Kooltherm has the lowest lambda value of any standard pipe insulation (λ = 0.025 W/mK), it achieves BS 5422 compliance at a thinner wall than Armaflex EVO (λ = 0.033) or Rockwool (λ = 0.034+). This makes it the preferred specification for space-constrained plant rooms, service risers and district heating connections.
